The Best Markets in Canberra
Kate Phillips goes to market in the nation’s capital. Here's where you should, too..
Old Bus Depot Markets
Held every Sunday between 10am and 4pm, in an industrial space in Kingston, the Old Bus Depot Market has an impressive range of handcrafted items, including art, jewellery, clothing and homewares. There’s plenty of food, too, from freshly baked bread at Dom’s Woodfired Gourmet Bread to boutique tea blends from RealChai.
Capital Region Farmers Market
If you’re smart, you’ll get down to the Capital Region Farmers Market early. Located at Exhibition Park in Mitchell, it’s held every Saturday between 7.30am and 11.30am and has more than 100 stalls offering local produce and sweet treats. Stock up on bagels from Bread Nerds and drop by Dream Cuisine Patisserie for decadent macarons and brownies.
Handmade Market
Held seasonally over two days, the Handmade Market aims to support independent and creative businesses in the region – which means everything from homewares to clothing and jewellery. Can’t make it to the market? Visit the Handmade Shop in Canberra City year-round for a taste of what’s on offer.
