Cockatoo Island Has Launched a New Ghost Tour
Sydneysiders seeking a scare need look no further than Cockatoo Island, where a spooky new tour is giving visitors a chance to discover the island’s supernatural side.
Launched in time for Halloween, Cockatoo Island Ghostyard – A Paranormal Tour takes guests on a night-time exploration of the Sydney Harbour spot with a medium who uses a device to detect ghosts that (allegedly) haunt the island.
Reports of paranormal happenings at Cockatoo Island have long been legend, including ghost sightings, eerie presences and inexplicable sensations.
Noticeable paranormal activity or not, Cockatoo Island has a dark history – it was a jail for convicts from 1839-1869 and a reformatory for more than a century. During this tour, the guide will share some of the goosebump-inducing details of the deaths, violence and escape attempts that are part of the island’s past.
Brave visitors can elect to do the Ghostyard Glamping Experience, where you’ll spend a somewhat unnerving night in a luxury tent after the tour.
Tickets for the standard tour are $45 per person. The overnight glamping experience is $200 per person. The tour is only open to people aged 18 years and over.
