Is This the Most Expensive Pot of Tea in Australia?
Would you pay three figures for a pot of tea? One Sydney venue is willing to bet yes.
At G&Tea, the new drinking space at Pyrmont's The Star, you can indulge in a speciality tea from luxury brand TWG, which comes infused with sparkling flecks of 24-carat gold that ensure the drink looks as good as it tastes.
It doesn’t come cheap – a pot of the special yellow gold tea buds will set you back a cool $120.
But the sparkle isn’t all that’s special about the brew. Each order of the premium tea will have the flavours amplified in a Gong Fu tea ceremony conducted by a qualified ‘Tea Master’, mirroring traditional Chinese methods.
Those not willing part with quite so much cash can pick from G&Tea’s extensive artisan tea range, which spans classic blends, Chinese teas and herbal varieties at a range of price points.
By night, G&Tea morphs from tea room to sleek gin bar. The lights dim, the jungle scenes on the space's LED screens turn from sun-drenched to twilight and the coasters switch from blush pink to forest green.
Guests can switch to the harder stuff with a range of gin-based cocktails, from classic infusions such as martinis or gin & tonics or try one of the specialist mixes. Our picks? The Green Tea Mojito and the ‘Tea Tini’ with Jing Green Apple Hibiscus Tea, vermouth and lemon peel.
The G&Tea bar is open now in the The Star’s Astral Tower, serving drinks seven days a week from 6.30 am until 11 pm Sunday to Thursday and 6.30 am until midnight Friday and Saturday. Bottoms up.
