Ragazzi – Restaurant Review

Here’s the ideal formula for solo diners: fast and friendly service, an option to eat at the bar and lots of small-serve choices. Throw in a wide-ranging beverage list and late opening hours and you’ve hit the jackpot. This Sydney wine bar – the latest offering from the crew behind bars Love, Tilly Devine and Dear Sainte Éloise – gives you all of the above and adds up to a seriously fine time. The expansive wine list focuses on Italy, with lots of options by the glass, including a terrific bottle-fermented Zanotto prosecco. Start there as you graze on crunchy pasta fritta crackers topped with juicy tuna tartare or milky burrata spilling over crumb-sprinkled green tomato wedges. The freshly made pasta is topnotch – cosy cappelletti (ricotta- and anchovy-filled “hats”) in a tomato-water broth is the perfect size for one – and there’s a gem lettuce salad crumbled with parmesan. Don’t ignore the excellent gelato. Mango and cardamom or chocolate and bourbon? You know you want to.
