Perched on the northern shores of Sydney Harbour, Taronga Zoo is a quick 12-minute ferry ride from the CBD. Spanning 21 hectares, the zoo is home to more than 4,000 animals, including native little penguins, koalas, the southern hairy-nosed wombat and the Tasmanian devil. Adventure-seekers should try out Taronga’s latest offering, “Wild Ropes”, a 90-minute ropes course, complete with flying foxes and breathtaking views across Sydney Harbour (minimum age 10 years). One of the zoo’s most popular events is “Roar and Snore”, an on-site sleepover at the zoo in luxury safari-style tents. Bookings are available via Ticketek (13 28 49 in Australia).
