The Old Clare Hotel, in the thriving inner-city Sydney suburb of Chippendale, is headed up by international hotel group Unlisted Collection – whose portfolio includes London’s Town Hall Hotel and Shanghai’s The Waterhouse at South Bund. The design has merged two heritage-listed buildings, affixed by a glass atrium. Its 62 rooms and suites retain original features, including high ceilings, original framed windows, timber panelling and exposed walls.

The Mary O’ Suite pays homage to Chippendale character Mary O’Shea and includes separate entertaining and dining for up to eight guests, while The Chippendale Lofts feature a white marble bathroom and sitting area across two levels.

Inspired by its artistic neighbourhood, quirky design elements are dotted throughout the hotel. They include vintage furniture, .PSLAB pendant lights and custom-made desk lamps fashioned from vintage machinery. Amenities from New Zealand brand Triumph & Disaster and bespoke Maison Balzac candles complete its bohemian aesthetic.

Downstairs, The Clare’s bar is a popular choice for locals, while independent restaurants Automata, Silvereye and Kensington Street Social offer unique dining. You’ll also find some of the city’s hottest tables nearby – dine at Ester or LP’s Quality Meats and afterwards head to Freda’s for its signature mezcal cocktails.

Hotel facilities include a private gym, heated rooftop pool and heritage meeting space.
