Don’t bemoan the lack of red and white checked tablecloths at Frankie’s: this is no traditional Italian joint.

Instead, rejoice at the pastel walls, polished concrete floors and pale bentwood chairs, plus the fresh approach to pizza, pasta and partying. The latest venture from the people behind the excellent PM Eat & Drink, Frankie’s nails it for very late lunches (after 3pm), dinner, post-dinner snacks – and those thirsty in-between times.

Start with small plates of white anchovies with garlic and chilli or mussels swimming in a tomato guazzetto before moving on to stone-cooked pizzas, ranging from classics to the luxuriant Super Mario with pancetta and truffle porcini cream. Non-pizza choices include velvety pillows of gnocchi with pumpkin and pine nuts, a seafood risotto and steak. Italian and local wines and beers, plus a tight little cocktails list, make Frankie’s molto buono.
