Grown – Restaurant Review
Dining at this green-tiled, ply-panelled café is a quintessentially bohemian West End experience. Owner Sacha Muchall sources most of Grown’s produce from within 400 kilometres of Brisbane and composts much of its waste at Loop Growers, a closed-loop market garden just outside town. The café’s setting – underneath an apartment block on a backstreet lined with poinciana and paperbark trees – is about as bucolic Brisbane as you can get. Virtually everything on Grown’s brunch menu is produced in-house, from the amazake yoghurt and chai syrup in the maple granola to the fluffycentred hash browns and the Vegemitestyle spread that comes with avocado toast. The café is also known for serving specialty coffee from Dramanti Artisan Roaster, accompanied by oat, almond, soy or coconut milk. Grown backs up its AM offerings with a share-plates dinner menu but Saturday morning is the best time to go – tie it in with a trip to the nearby Davies Park Market, one of the city’s best.
