It’s hard to miss the rising cool factor in Brisbane, with trendy eateries, stylish shopping precincts and chic accommodation proliferating. The inner-city suburb of Fortitude Valley is a paradox: uber-chic yet rough around the edges. The latest addition to this offbeat mix? The Alex Perry Hotel & Apartments. Opened in October 2015, the designer-inspired hotel is as stylish as the man himself.

Rooms

The rooms are modern and polished, with artistic finishes that ooze style. Take your pick from a studio, one-bedroom apartment, one-bedroom executive apartment, two-bedroom apartment or two-bedroom executive apartment. All rooms have a self-catering kitchen, HD/LED smart television, “Sleep Elite” bed, desk and in-room laundry complete with an iron and ironing board. Expect extras such as complimentary wi-fi, Foxtel Platinum access, a garment steamer and an extended amenities range in the executive rooms.

Hotel Review: Alex Perry Hotel & Apartments

Location

Located in trendy Fortitude Valley, the Alex Perry Hotel & Apartments is 2.2 kilometres from Brisbane’s CBD and 13 kilometres from Brisbane Airport. The James Street precinct is just 500 metres from the hotel and has some of Brisbane’s best boutique shopping. Stand-outs include Calexico for women’s clothing and accessories and St Barts for luxurious, bohemian-inspired homewares.

Restaurants

There are no eateries on site just yet (keep an eye out for an opening in July 2016) but there are plenty of worthy eateries nearby. For breakfast, head to Gerard’s Bistro – with ample seating inside and out, tables are easy to come by. After a day exploring Brisbane, book a table at Bucci for a seasonal Italian menu. Fancy a drink afterwards? Pop across the road for a glass of wine at Cru Bar & Cellar, where the range is extensive.

Facilities

Those with energy to burn will appreciate the well-equipped gymnasium and outdoor heated swimming pool with impressive city views. Prefer to relax? Take in the excellent view while making the most of the rooftop recreation area’s lounges, barbecue facilities and dining spaces.

Concierge

Ruth Carroll, revenue and operations manager at the Alex Perry Hotel & Apartments, has the perfect itinerary for a daytrip from Brisbane: “Go out to Tangalooma for the day, explore and do a helicopter tour.” Located on the west coast of Moreton Island, Tangalooma is a 75-minute ferry trip from Holt Street Wharf in Pinkenba, Brisbane. “As the sun goes down, you feed the dolphins and then relax on the ferry back to the mainland,” Carroll says. Heaven.

Fab factor

You’ll be perfectly coiffed when you stay in an executive apartment at the Alex Perry Hotel & Apartments. Even if humidity does unfortunate things to your hair, you can leave your heated tools at home and use the GHD hairdryers and hair straighteners in your room. Your hair and luggage allowance will thank you.
