Qantas Reinvents the Departure Experience in Brisbane
Qantas has been quietly enhancing facilities at Brisbane Airport since last year, launching a new International Lounge in October and now a new Domestic Business Lounge, Valet service and Premium Lounge Entry.
Premium Lounge Entry means top-tier Frequent Flyers will have an exclusive check-in area, bag drop, security screening and direct entry to the lounge precinct. Travellers can access the Premium Lounge Entry directly from the Valet service, streamlining the entire airport experience.
And once flyers are ensconced in the Domestic Business Lounge, which is 30 per cent bigger than its predecessor, the journey really begins. Designed by Woods Bagot, the lounge is inspired by the outdoorsy Queensland lifestyle – think indoor plants, natural light and a bespoke piece by Brisbane artist Jenna Lee. The space has been created using local materials and a colour palette based on Moreton Bay at twilight.
Neil Perry, Qantas’s creative director of Food, Beverage & Service, has introduced The Cantina, which serves fresh, tasty Mexican-inspired fare such as empanadas, quesadillas and soft tacos. The all-day coffee bar is tended by baristas and for those in need of hydration there’s Quench, a bar serving non-alcoholic drinks, including infused water and a Rockpool signature tisane. The focus is on pre-flight hydration but for visitors in the mood for a different kind of refreshment, the bar has a selection of Australian wines and craft beers, plus a cocktail menu designed by Rockpool mixologists.
The lounge is equipped with a dedicated work zone for business travellers: there’s wi-fi, TVs screening Foxtel, wireless printing and power outlets for last-minute preparation. Shower suites with ASPAR by Aurora skincare products allow passengers to freshen up pre-flight.
The multimillion-dollar upgrade is about creating an enjoyable experience for the Qantas traveller from the moment they arrive at the airport.
“Customers tell us that being able to enjoy a relaxing space with top-quality food and wine prior to flying is high on their list when it comes to creating the ideal lounge experience,” says Qantas head of domestic lounges Helen Gray. “Premium Lounge Entry is a first for Qantas and will streamline the departure process so our top-tier Frequent Flyers can move through the terminal quickly and maximise their time relaxing or working in the lounge.
