Families love this property and for good reason: it occupies a central location by the sea and by the city, there are three pools with ample splashing space for kids (and kidults alike) plus excellent on-site dining. After all, who could complain about grand buffets, piled high all manner of options?

A 40-minute drive from Gold Coast Airport, the hotel is smackbang on Main Beach.

Sea World is a one-minute drive north, while the buzzing restaurants, bars and cafés of Cavill Avenue are a 10-minute drive south, making this hotel ideal for both kids and adults.

Room types

That soothing feeling you experience in the lobby – lined with very appropriate Slim Aarons prints – follows you into the guest rooms. There are 20 categories, from the simple-yet-comforting Mirage Resort room to the two-bedroom Ocean Villa. Each space looks fresh, thanks to an abundance of white linen and natural light but the true highlight is hidden in the bathroom: every room has a deep-soaking spa bath.

Restaurants and bars

The on-site restaurant, Terraces, has an enduring reputation for its extensive buffets, with the seafood offering one of its main drawcards. There’s an a la carte menu, too, with family-friendly staples such as burgers and pizzas.

Pool, gym and spa

Staying at Sheraton Grand Mirage doesn't mean you have to interrupt your health regime. The fitness centre at the neighbouring Golden Door Spa & Health Club (open 4.30am to 10pm) is free for hotel guests to use and equipped with everything you need to work up a sweat. Later, however, sore muscles should be soothed at the spa, where massages, facials and indulgent packages such as Signature Ritual with a volcanic clay body cocoon and scalp massage await.

Travel for work

Sheraton Grand Mirage is a versatile property – perfect for both leisure and business travellers, with free wi-fi, in-room work desks and desktops and printing services in a separate section of the lobby. There are 15 meeting rooms and 12 event spaces, including the Mirage Grand Ballroom, which can seat up to 1000 guests in a theatre-style setup. Events can also be hosted on the lush lawns of the property or right on the beach.
