The Darling – Hotel Review

The Darling is the newest dazzler in The Star’s constellation of extravagant digs – a glittering high-roller haven with attentive staff, opulent interiors and just 56 suites. Yes, suites, not mere rooms. Read on for the full review.

It’s located right next to The Star Gold Coast (formerly Jupiters) so guests have easy access to the beach and all of the mother ship’s drinking and dining dens – including renowned Japanese eatery Kiyomi. But don’t forget to drop in at Nineteen at the Star. Located on The Darling’s top floor, it’s an indoor-outdoor space with sensational food and drinks, and views to match.

Where is The Darling?

About 30 minutes drive from the Gold Coast Airport, The Darling is located in the buzzy neighbourhood of Broadbeach, about 400 metres from the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean. 

What's near The Darling?

Everything The Star precinct has to offer. As a memory jog, that's the always-on glittering casino and endless delicious on-site dining options. It’s also within walking distance of the area’s biggest mall, Pacific Fair.

Room types

At 70 square metres, even the smallest suite at The Darling is super spacious and features separate living room, private balcony, Bose sound system, 65-inch Samsung smart TV and a gleaming ensuite complete with an oversize bath. If you want to turn up the luxe factor, book one of the penthouse suites – yes, there are more than one. The one with the billiard table, two bedrooms (each with its own ensuite) and a large living room is the ultimate splurge. 

Restaurants and bars

There’s a plethora on-site restaurants and bars at The Star and The Darling, but the pick of the bunch is the hatted Kiyomi (pictured above), where head chef Chase Kojima delights diners with ocean-fresh Japanese in a refined setting complete with striking feature walls. If you’re after a breezy brunch with playful afternoon tipples, then make a beeline for the Garden Kitchen and Bar where the vibe and fare are more laidback. Whatever you do, don’t forget to check out The Darling’s rooftop Nineteen at the Star restaurant and bar – now considered one of the Gold Coast’s hottest haunts. 

Travel for work

Suites are equipped with a cutting-edge technology – from fully-integrated Bose sound systems and Samsung smart TVs to Bluetooth connectivity and multiple USB ports. The Star is also a great location for corporate events with a 1600-square-metre ballroom and a theatre located within the complex.

Spa, pool and gym

It would take little persuading to draw guests to either The Darling Pool – a 25-metre outdoor feature – or to The Darling Spa, where a Moroccan Hammam chamber, steam room and Jacuzzi supplement the already indulgent treatments on offer.

There's a dazzling rooftop infinity pool perched 67 metres above street level with a poolside menu available until 6pm.
