In a locale encircled by the waters of both ocean and river, it seems only right that one the area’s restaurants be afloat. Noosa Boathouse is that restaurant. Arrive by ferry at the large pontoon on the shores of Noosa Sound; inside, climb the stairs to the Sunset Bar for a pre-dinner cocktail and expansive views of the waterways and hinterland. Dining itself is at water-level and executive chef Shane Bailey’s pièce de résistance is a three-tiered seafood platter piled with Mooloolaba prawns, Moreton Bay bugs, oysters, spanner crab, salt and pepper calamari, barramundi and more. Families are well catered for with a special kids’ meal deal if eating early – and, as with any self-respecting restaurant on the water, they also do a mean takeaway fish and chips.
