Water seems to suit celebrity chef Peter Kuruvita. His famed former restaurant in Sydney, Flying Fish, is perched atop Jones Bay Wharf at Pyrmont, with views extending through the harbour city. His two offerings in Fiji (Flying Fish Fiji and Flying Fish Tokoriki) share a similar proximity to ocean, both in waterfront locations. Now, he’s here on the Sunshine Coast with his latest establishment, Noosa Beach House Peter Kuruvita, and while the entrance may be on Sheraton Noosa’s Hastings Street frontage, the waves of Main Beach are but a mere stroll away.

As ever, Kuruvita’s beloved Sri Lanka inspires the dishes at this smart establishment. There’s a bar menu downstairs which offers all-day dining but if the occasion calls for fanfare, take the few steps up to the elevated restaurant for an extensive array of modern Asian dishes, including seafood tapas, local crab, bugs or lobster served three ways and Kuruvita’s signature Sri Lankan snapper curry. For dessert, don’t go past the Sri Lankan Love Cake, with strawberries, coconut, raspberries and spices.
