The Gentlemen's Guide to Grooming in Adelaide
Keeping a beard in check or staying clean shaven takes work but not at these top-notch Adelaide establishments. Here's your guide to some of the best barbers.
Best barber
Robbie's Chop Shop
“Dudes cutting dudes’ hair” is how Robert Ferrante describes his men-only barbershop. Three years ago, he had just one chair; now there are 10 and long pews for anyone waiting. Cuts at this retro-styled Goodwood barber are walk-in only but never fear: there are pinball machines, a PlayStation, pumping tunes and affable banter to fill the time.

Best for beards
The Fellow Barber
The décor is modern meets vintage and the vibe welcoming. Great men’s cuts and shaves are part of the repertoire, of course, but The Fellow Barber (Shop 18, Parade Central, Norwood; 08 8431 2009) is a leader in beard maintenance. There’s a second outpost in Henley Beach and both shops are co-owned by Port Adelaide Football Club player Robbie Gray so don’t be surprised to find a member of Adelaide’s sports elite in the next chair.
Best shave
Mr Combs Barbershop
Catering to the business crowd, Mr Combs Barbershop (3/115-117 King William Street, Adelaide; 0451 234 904), with an entry on Waymouth Street in the CBD, boasts three chairs, two highly experienced barbers and one full-time barista. Come for a cut, a coffee or one of their indulgent old-school hot shaves. Keep the good grooming going with products from Aussie brand Burly Fellow and American-made V76 by Vaughn.
Best post-flight treatment
Swiss Wellness
Pampering might be part of the process at Swiss Wellness in Unley but the ultimate goal is holistic wellbeing. Keep your holiday glow with the Traveller’s Package ($220), a 2.5-hour combination of infra-red sauna, muscle-release massage and detox facial that is bound to soothe and revive after a long flight.
Best massage
Endota Spa
The new Endota Spa in Norwood is a welcoming space for both men and women where the tone is set on entry: a palette of neutral colours and gently lilting tunes. For complete relaxation, opt for the 60-minute Deep Recovery Massage, which incorporates warm jade stones and an arnica and menthol back scrub.
