Veg Bar – Restaurant Review

After an easy 20-minute walk or five-minute drive from the CBD, you’ll know you’ve arrived at this North Hobart spot when you spy the colourful façade featuring street art by Rhi Bryce.
Inside, you’ll find pastel breezeblock walls, picnic benches and hanging plants, plus the odd cosy booth for two. Go straight for the Gym Junkie bowl of broccoli, kale, sweet potato, avocado, brown rice and garlic peanut sauce – full of flavour, spice and a satisfying crunch courtesy of roasted chickpeas. This is an order-at-the-counter deal so you can get up and down and earn a meal that’s not quite so righteous, such as “fish” (crisp battered banana blossoms) and chips or a burger, loaded fries and a thickshake blended with housemade coconut ice-cream and topped with whipped coconut cream.
There’s an all-day cocktail list so sneak in a refreshing Dark Ninja – a mix of dark rum, organic ginger beer, lime and mint.
346 Elizabeth Street, North Hobart; (03) 6231 1593; open seven days for lunch and dinner.
