The Kitchen at Alceme - Cafe Review

Ignore the spelling – it’s pronounced al-chem-y and it’s mixing things up very nicely indeed. This newly renovated urban retreat in Hobart’s CBD offers yoga, meditation, dance and a light-filled café with products from small local operations (including Straight Up Roasters and Tasmanian Tea Company) and a menu that focuses on nourishing wholefoods. Those with a sweet tooth will warm to the banana and quinoa bread with whipped coconut cream, roasted pears and toasted hazelnuts, while savoury fiends will be torn between the poached eggs with sautéed greens, pickled cherry tomatoes and salsa verde and the golden and red lentil dal with coconut, tomato, coriander and chickpea flatbreads. There are plenty of vegan and gluten- free options on the menu but omnivores and pescetarians are well catered for, too, with free-range bacon and house-cured salmon.
