Arbory Bar & Eatery

For years nothing happened at the platform of Flinders Street Station closest to the Yarra River but, thanks to some tireless work by a local coffee company, that’s all changed. The former termination point for the defunct Sandridge line is now home to Melbourne’s longest bar. The whole area is outdoors beneath an arbory of plane trees (hence the name) while the operations that need to be inside – kitchen, bar, bathrooms – are housed in shipping containers. The outlook across the river to Southbank is surprisingly serene, the design slick and you can either pop in for breakfast or join city workers in a craft brew and burger as the sun goes down.
