Magic Mountain Saloon
When you’ve got a formula that works, why change it? That seems to be philosophy of the owners of this uptown newcomer, who are also the brains behind Cookie and Toff in Town. There’s a banging (and fiery) Thai-inspired menu, a kooky, cool venue (this one changes vibe on its different floors rather than around corners like Cookie) and an inspired drinks list. Spritzers are Magic Mountain’s thing – try the Bitch Diesel, made from sauvignon blanc, lemonade and lime. The kitchen’s open till late each night and early in the morning, too, so you can fuel up on congee, coconut pikelets and papaya and baked eggs, pork belly, smoked eggplant, tomato, chilli and basil before getting on with the day.
Location
You’re not far from the historic part of the Melbourne CBD, which is also home to Parliament House and the Old Treasury. One block down you’ll find the designer shopping of Collins Street.
