Not all hotels seem as deserving of a five-star rating as The Westin Perth, an unstuffy, art-studded stay that soars over the city’s central Hibernian Place. Read on for the full review.

Although the interiors are grand — as are on-site amenities such as a rooftop pool, wellness spa and award-winning Italian eatery — the feeling is relaxed, with floods of natural light warming the sandstone-hued interiors for a warm welcome. The result is pure luxury, right in the heart of the city.

Where is The Westin Perth?

Westin Perth

In the absolute centre of Perth CBD, towering over Hibernian Place. By car, it’s less than 20 minutes to the airport and about 15 minutes by foot to Barrack Street Jetty for ferry links to Rottnest Island.

What’s near The Westin Perth?

The exceptional WA Museum Boola Bardip, a new museum that reaches back into palaeolithic history, and the Art Gallery of Western Australia are both a 12-minute walk. It’s also just 15 minutes’ walk from the pretty marina of Elizabeth Quay and Barrack Street Jetty, where ferries leave for the idyllic Rottnest Island.

All rooms contain the Westin Heavenly Bed, which is as luxurious as it sounds. Even in the smallest room, the Deluxe King, the sandstone-coloured bathrooms feel grand and spacious, and baths can be requested. There are pod coffee machines, free bottled water and floor-to-ceiling windows that capitalise on views and spread natural light throughout the space. Rooms are also decked out with pieces from an impressive art collection curated to reflect the contours, forms and hues of Western Australia’s unique topography. The clean design is enhanced by a myriad of magnificent artworks dotted about the rooms (and common areas) of the hotel, from sculpture by Robert Bridgewater to stone carvings by Lena Nyadbi and photography by Christian Fletcher.

Restaurants and bars

Garum restaurant

The grand Garum, from acclaimed chef Guy Grossi, is not your average hotel eatery. Housed in the atmospheric Hibernian Hall, with soaring ceilings and high, arched windows, it sets a very chic scene for an outstanding meal. The menu is a mix of ancient and modern Roman dishes with Western Australian produce and the results are fantastic: try the veal saltimbocca with semolina gnocchi.

There’s also the plush Haven Lounge, a light-drenched space with an impressive floral installation, where guests can relax and order anything from a pot of tea to an evening cocktail.

Travel for work

All rooms have a stylish dining space featuring a good-sized table, which can easily double as a workspace, beside those enormous windows. There’s also free wi-fi throughout the hotel and meeting spaces, all of which shun the bland conference-room vibe and have high ceilings and bold lighting. There is also a dry-cleaning service for your clothes.

Pool, gym and spa

Westin outdoor rooftop pool

The 20-metre outdoor pool seems to hang out over the city and is a blissful place to relax, especially under the striped sun-yellow beach umbrellas. The fitness centre enjoys the same view, giving you something pretty to focus on during your workout. Be sure to also consult the on-site Run Concierge, who hosts fitness runs about the city, along trails only the locals know.

Bodhi J Wellness, the superb on-site spa, is as stylish as it is soothing, with a ‘relax terrace’ that takes in incredible city views. The spa menu is extensive with treatments that harness tools such as bamboo reeds and rose quartz to really up the relaxation.
