Cape Lodge, Yallingup

Wandering Cape Lodge’s 16-hectare grounds, it’s hard not to be captivated. Pathways lined with agapanthus and clivias, a tennis court bordered with climbing roses, rolling lawns that lead to an inviting swimming pool, a three-hectare vineyard, a croquet lawn and a large lagoon fringed by gums and peppermint trees all come together to create an Arcadian feel.

The interiors of the 22 generously proportioned rooms continue this mood, with classic blond wood, white louvres and a mélange of neutrals and greys. Elements such as ceramic lamps, glass vases and contemporary local artworks deliver a polished finish. All suites have a spacious marble or granite bathroom but it’s the Lakeside Rooms that are the real prize, with decadent spa tubs big enough to stretch out in.

Como the Treasury, Perth

It’s grand, luxurious and undeniably cool but can an edifice that once housed the post office and the state’s chief accountant really claim romantic credentials? As it turns out, yes, it can. In fact, when one couple who met on the site as teenage public servants returned to spend their 43rd anniversary at the newly opened Como the Treasury, hotel staff loaded Only Sixteen and When a Man Loves a Woman – songs from their wedding – onto an iPod and had the tunes playing when the couple entered their room. It’s that kind of place.

Whether you check into the smallest room (average 55 square metres) or the largest (120 square metres), you’ll sleep between Egyptian cotton sheets under soaring ceilings amid décor that blends sleek Scandi style and Victorian grandeur. The free minibar is replenished daily. Oh, and there’s a switch beside the bed for the blackout blinds. Just saying.

Dining

Choices include fine-diner Wildflower on the rooftop and modern Italian joint Post, with private dining rooms available on request. Plus with cocktails, whiskey and wine served at The Treasury Lounge and Bar, you can settle in for the weekend. There’s no need to leave the State Buildings.

Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa, Broome

Cable Beach and its beloved eponymous resort are both synonymous with Broome – and for good reason, starting with its peerless location on one of the country’s great beaches. The wealth of on-site eating and drinking options doesn’t hurt, either, nor does the squad of service personnel who strike the right balance of polished  and Broome-casual.

While the resort is an obvious choice for families, Cable Beach Club is equally qualified to host couples seeking a romantic getaway. Lush tropical gardens create a sense of privacy, while the rooms – a timeless combination of stained timber and pearling- inspired elegance – are comfortable and romantic. And then there’s that sunset over Cable Beach...

Although the food here has long been a drawcard,  the appointment of executive chef Joji Iwama in 2013 has shifted the odds even further in the diner’s favour. The flavours of Iwama’s homeland are front and centre at the resort’s Japanese diner, Zensai, while Kichi Kichi celebrates contemporary Thai food.  At Cichetti Club, expect refined Italian cooking and great wines.

Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef, Exmouth

There’s camping, there’s glamping and then there’s Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef, a luxury 16-tent safari lodge hiding in plain sight in Cape Range National Park. Injidup Spa Retreat, Yallingup

The first thing you notice at Injidup Spa Retreat is the view. Here, high above Injidup Beach, the outlook from each of the 10 villas spans 180 degrees of blue Indian Ocean, silver-green dune vegetation, sandy coastline and broad sky. It’s stunning.

But if you can lift your chin  off the floor and tear yourself away, inside you’ll find a haven of relaxation: cream leather sofas, putty-coloured walls, bleached-wood furnishings and a king-size bed. There’s  a sofa and limestone fireplace for cosying up on cooler nights and a plunge pool for the heat of summer. Suites have either one or two bedrooms and children are not permitted so it’s a guaranteed grown-up idyll. As the moniker suggests, luxurious spa treatments are where Injidup excels and the couple’s spa room, complete with large tub, looks out over the ocean. If you’re lucky,  a whale might swim past.
