Carbonara
Rome is the birthplace of carbonara, which should have nothing to do with cream, mushrooms, peas or bacon. Order a steaming plate of this comfort food with local guanciale and you will finally understand why the Romans get so irate when the world gets it so wrong. The area of Monti is great for an aperitivo – or the Italian concept of happy hour at sunset – so if you can’t get an early booking, take advantage of a stroll around the nearby streets and see why all the pretty young things of Rome flock here to socialise.
Location
The impossibly cool and picturesque Monti is arguably the best spot in Rome for young artists, hipsters and fashionistas. It’s centrally located, lying just south of Termini and is around a 10-minute walk from Piazza Venezia or a five-minute walk from the Colosseum.
