Its name may be evil but the food and ambiance are not: grab a stool at a communal table and flip through the collection of niche creative magazines and journals while you drink your perfect cafe con leche and eat a delicious doughnut or, for something a bit healthier, muesli with fresh fruit. Take one for the road while you explore the streets of the Gothic Quarter and neighbouring Raval. So many people will tell you this is the best coffee in Barcelona that you just can’t ignore it. If you’re in a hurry, politely let them know as they get busy and sometimes there is a wait.

Location

Barri Gòtic (Gothic Quarter) is the historic old town of Barcelona, characterised by narrow, cobbled streets and, you guessed it, Gothic architecture, including some beautiful cathedrals. A lovely place to explore and get lost – when you want out, the easiest way is to ask someone to direct you to La Rambla, one of Barcelona’s busiest streets.
