Mercer Hotel Barcelona
Tucked away down a cobbled gothic street and nestled within the fortified Roman walls of the old town, the Mercer Barcelona is one seriously chic place to rest your head after a day exploring the best of the city.
The 28 stylish rooms combine local Spanish influences with hundreds of years of architectural history and elegant Scandinavian design. Think exposed brickwork and solid timber features complemented by crisp, white Egyptian cotton sheets, touch-sensitive Finnish beechwood bedside lamps, deep-pile rugs and luxurious Molton Brown bathroom products.
If you can tear yourself away from your room, the central courtyard with its three orange trees and large windows is a relaxing and peaceful spot to enjoy breakfast, lunch or a drink. You can almost visualise mediaeval maidens enjoying its peace and quiet.
If hunger strikes, dining options abound within the hotel. At street level, you can watch the world go by and enjoy traditional tapas and a local vino in the laid-back Le Bouchon. For more of a gastronomic feast, book a table in the Mercer Restaurant. Decorated with restored mediaeval frescoes and located in the grandest part of the building, the menu has been created to showcase the very best of the local meat, seafood and vegetables.
One place to top it all, however, is the private and intimate rooftop with sun lounges, bar service and pool. It’s the perfect way to cool down in the hot summer sunshine, with everything the Mercer Barcelona has to offer
Location
Situated in the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, you’ll find Mercer Barcelona at 7 Calle Lledó, behind a pair of imposing and grand double wooden doors. Located down a narrow street that’s barely wide enough for a taxi, the building incorporates part of the Roman walls used to defend the city, with some dating back to the 1st century AD.
Explore the maze of streets and you’ll discover you’re well placed for the action of Las Ramblas, the waterfront site of many of Barcelona’s best shopping streets. You’re also a short walk to many of the city’s subway lines. Of course, with so much history to explore, there’s plenty to keep you busy in the immediate vicinity. And if you do want to go further afield and don’t fancy public transport, the charming front desk staff can help make any travel arrangement needed.
