Radisson Blu Edwardian Vanderbilt Hotel – Hotel Review

Once a row of 10 townhouses on a blue-ribbon street in Kensington, the heritage-listed Radisson Blu Edwardian Vanderbilt Hotel has carefully kept its Victorian bones. The original fresco ceilings and windows are intact and it seamlessly blends old with new – in this case, in-room dining, pillow menus and marble bathrooms. The best of city’s museums are within walking distance — the Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum and the Natural History Museum are just five minutes away on foot — and Hyde Park, that central hub of joggers and sun-seeking picnic-goers, is less than a 20-minute stroll through the lovely streets of west London.

The property stretches along Cromwell Road, a main road that slices through the up-market surrounds of South Kensington, in the city’s west. It’s about 25 minutes drive from Heathrow Airport. Tube stations Gloucester Road and South Kensington are just a few minutes walk away.

Encircled by pockets of parks and some of the city’s best museums, there’s plenty to explore on foot from here. The Natural History Museum, as well as the glorious Victoria & Albert Museum, are both within 10 minutes walking distance; Kensington Palace is five minutes more.

Room types

Individual Rooms are pared back and simple in tones of white and navy, with extra goodies (Nespresso machines and fancy Ren skincare amenities) included once you book a Standard room or above. The Junior Suite is particularly plush: adorned by a chandelier, it has the added luxury of a comfy velvet couch, a soaking tub and a generous 39 square metres of space.

Restaurants and bars

At the time of writing, the only onsite eatery, The Scoff & Banter, was closed to the public (for the time being). Never fear; there are plenty of nearby places worth wandering for, including the lively Tapas Brindisa, a homey Spanish spot with much more than croquettes and charcuterie. The fried goat’s cheese with orange blossom honey is exceptional.

Travel for work

Every room type includes a full-size work desk with free wi-fi. There are also a number of meeting and events spaces for hire, including one with an open fireplace. Dry-cleaning and laundry services are also available onsite for any last-minute pressing.

Hungry? In-room dining is still available, with hearty classics like burgers and garlic and parmesan French fries.
