Seeing the Hollywood sign from afar is one thing; it's quite another to see the letters up close. To do so, you'll need a car (or catch a cab), a pair of good walking shoes and a few leisurely hours. Start the hike at the Hollyridge trailhead, located at the top of Beachwood Drive behind the “Sunset Ranch” sign. After 800 metres, make a sharp left at the fork to join Mulholland Trail. At the second fork, go right up the paved Mount Lee Drive to reach the backs of the 14-metre-high letters, obstructed only by a chain-link fence. Walk up a short dirt path to the mountain’s peak, for 360-degree views of San Fernando Valley, Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Lake Hollywood Reservoi, and the distant Pacific Ocean. Parking is available by the trailhead. Don't forget your camera.
