The Polo Lounge
Of the places that celebrate Old Hollywood, The Beverly Hills Hotels’ Polo Lounge ranks high on the list. Its patio has hardly changed since it was christened in 1941, a glamorous exercise in lush landscaping, signature green-and-white striped awnings, palm frond-printed upholstered chairs and back-to-back booths encased in decorative pink bricks. The most popular booth, number one, is the most coveted because it was always reserved for Charlie Chaplin… even when he didn’t turn up for a meal. The most popular dish on the menu is the McCarthy Salad, a mix of romaine (cos) hearts with chicken, eggs, beetroot, smoked bacon, cheddar, tomatoes, avocadoes and balsamic. Other favourites include the steak tartare, tortilla soup and chocolate soufflé. Consistently rated as a power-lunching spot, the Polo Lounge is where deals are "closed", be it over breakfast, brunch, lunch, drinks or dinner.
