No longer the city’s “best kept secret,” as the department store once claimed, this hugely popular downtown department store is a worthwhile pit-stop for those looking for upscale basics. While no longer offering the designer steals for which it was once renowned, the store, located opposite the World Trade Center, remains a great place to stock up on wardrobe staples that are cheaper than they would be at home. Split over the seven-floors is a constantly rotated retail mix, including men’s business shirts, denim, European shoes, leather-goods, underwear and sunglasses. Purchases under $110 are exempt from New York State sales tax.
