The property is right on ritzy Fifth Avenue between 36th and 37th Street, just three blocks north of the Empire State Building. Depending on the time of day, it’s a 45-80 minute car ride from JFK and 30-55 minutes from La Guardia.

It doesn’t get much more central than this. Just three blocks from Bryant Park and an easy walk to most of midtown Manhattan’s must-see/must-do attractions, whether you want to wander through Times Square or take in a Broadway show. The 34 St - Herald Square subway stop is a five-minute walk away, servicing eight different lines.

Room types

By New York hotel standards, The Langham’s rooms are huge. Even the entry level Superior rooms are 39 square metres. The spacious marble bathrooms feature two vanities, a rainfall shower and deep bathtub. The complimentary turn-down service includes chocolates and sleep aids, and the beds, made by Swedish company Duxiana, are so comfortable that they’re difficult to leave in the morning. Executive Club Rooms and some suites come with a view to die for – the neighbouring Empire State Building right outside your window. 

Restaurants and bars

Ai Fiori – “among the flowers” in Italian – is the Langham’s Michelin-starred restaurant, which is always festooned with gorgeous floral arrangements. Specialising in a French/Italian Riviera style of cuisine, it has become a destination for pasta connoisseurs – the Trofie Nero (squid ink pasta) is a go-to dish. Bar Fiori is a stylish and bustling nightspot with an award-winning wine list and a popular signature cocktail, the Royal Blush, a vodka martini with a champagne topper. The Langham Club is a lavish private retreat for those in Executive Club rooms and suites, with complimentary breakfast buffet and omelette chef, snacks and drinks during the day and full bar with cocktails and canapes at night. 

Sustainability

The hotel is EarthCheck certified. There are recycling bins in every room, no plastic water bottles, and any food waste from the restaurants is reduced to grey water. The hotel has monthly sustainability campaigns focusing on different areas and staff do regular community service hours, volunteering in homeless shelters and carrying out charity work. 

Travel for work

The Gallery on the third floor has almost 700 square metres of meeting and event space, fitted out with state-of-the-art audio-visual technology and devised by boutique design firm Meyer Davis to accommodate everything from board meetings to conferences and events.   

Gym

The fourth-floor fitness centre is large and airy, open 24 hours and packed with everything you need for a workout, including Peloton bikes, treadmills and elliptical machines. There’s also a range of free weights, kettlebells and fitness balls.   

What you need to know

Subject to availability, you can experience the all-day delights of The Langham Club even if you’re not in one of the eligible rooms, at a cost of $US150 a day (low season).
