The Metropolitan Museum of Art
The largest museum in the USA should be intimidating – but, thankfully, it’s actually easily manageable, as long as you’re not set on seeing every item in its centuries-spanning collection. Whether you’re interested in early Egyptian artefacts, ancient armour or more modern fare, go early to avoid the crowds that flock to this famous site. (The recommended entry fee is $25 but it’s pay-as-you-wish.) And here’s a hidden gem: the Met’s Roof Garden Cafe, open May through October, is the perfect spot for an evening drink. Your date will be impressed by the views of Central Park and the city skyline.
Location
The relatively quiet Upper East Side neighbourhood is largely residential. In this area, culture seekers are drawn to Museum Mile, flanked by the Met and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum; shoppers flock to the world-famous Fifth Avenue.
