The beaches, reefs and villas are exceptional. The service even better. Need a nanny? A yoga class? Consider it done.

The resort

Kokomo Fiji seaplane landing

Kokomo offers a generous helping of Fiji’s famous white sand, turquoise water, coral reefs and tropical landscape in an atmosphere of indulgence, with a price tag to match. The aim is to meet guests’ every desire, from food and wine to activities and amenities. Butler and daytime nanny services are included.

The villa

A villa at Kokomo Resort Fiji

As with each of the villas, the two-bedroom No. 14 is tucked behind a private gate and has its own infinity pool and sun lounges, oversized sun bed, outdoor dining area, lawn with hammock and direct beach access. The interior showcases natural materials and textures, combining the airiness of a traditional bure with modern furnishings. Pops of colour come from works by artist-in-residence Chris Kenyon. The villa has a kitchenette, aircon and ceiling fans; both rooms have an ensuite with a rain shower and share a private outdoor shower. The master bedroom also has a bath and walk-in robe.

Number of guestrooms: 21 one-, two- and three-bedroom Beachside Villas; five Luxury Hilltop Residences (with three to six bedrooms); and a six-bedroom Beachfront Luxury Residence.

Check in/out: At your convenience, usually timed to coordinate with flights at Nadi Airport (transfers by Kokomo’s seaplane and helicopter are restricted to daylight hours).

Food and drink: Meals, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks are included. Eat at your residence, in the elegant waterfront Beach Shack, the more relaxed (also beachfront) Asian-influenced Walker D’Plank or at the Poolside Cabana.

Water: The complimentary minibar has all the bottled water you could want.

Minibar: Stocked with soft drinks and snacks, all included in the tariff.

Room service: The vegetarian club sandwich – with camembert, egg, avocado and salad – is delicious. It took 24 minutes to arrive from the opposite side of the island.

TV and movies: There’s news and about 400 free movies.

Bathtub: Freestanding, beautiful and large enough to disappear in.

Amenities: Coconut-scented soap, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, exfoliating sugar rub and body lotion made by Pure Fiji.

Bathrobe: Waffle-weave cotton in your nominated size, from small to large and kids’ sizes.

Pillow menu: Choose from feather (light, medium, heavy), memory foam and microfibre.

Wellness: Yoga classes, 24-hour gym access, snorkelling, fishing, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, and Hobie and laser sailing are all included; scuba diving and game fishing are optional extras, as are spa treatments such as the blissful Warm Seashell Massage.

Wi-fi: Surprisingly excellent.

The housekeeping test: Toothpaste took eight minutes between phone request and arrival.

Price: From $US2500 (about $3575) per night excluding government taxes for a one-bedroom Private Beachfront Villa to an eye-watering $US130,000 (about $186,000) excluding government taxes for exclusive use of the resort, excluding air transfers.

Ask for… a villa on the east side of the island (it’s windier but totally secluded). If you have small children, stay on the west side for the sheltered beach. Either way, golf carts will whisk you wherever you want to go.
