A super-hip, thoughtfully designed boutique hotel with a great bar that is also family-friendly sounds about as likely as meeting a unicorn. Cue Auckland’s Hotel DeBrett. The attention to detail here is pretty impressive: take the carpets, which, inspired by sweaters knitted by the owner’s grandmother, were hand-woven from 100% New Zealand wool. For babies, the cots are wooden and lined with beautiful linens, also hand-made by none other than the owner’s own mother. Overall, the 25 rooms and suites all are spacious, clean and bright, with touches like Eames-style lounge chairs, local New Zealand art and some of the most comfortable beds you will ever need. Their Cornerbar stands on its own as a pretty decent watering hole, with a strong focus on New Zealand craft beers and boutique wines, and is a perfect spot for an after work drink in the CBD if you don’t mind a bit of noise. For something with a more intimate feel there’s the art deco-style Housebar and the DeBretts Kitchen restaurant, which recently made it into Metro Eats Auckland’s Top 50 Restaurants.

Location

This is the heart of the Auckland CBD and most things you need are easily accessible by foot. Head to the cool boutiques of the revamped Britomart, explore Albert Park or catch a ferry to experience the beautiful harbour.
