The obvious attraction is Sky Tower, the needle-like building that soars 328 metres into the Auckland sky. It’s a case of choosing your own adventure at the top: some opt to admire the incredible views, others select the more terrifying SkyJump, a “BASE-jumping by wire” adventure.

Culture buffs should head a little further east (seven minutes by foot, to be exact) to Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, where a staggering 15,000 works span international greats such as Frida Kahlo and Kura Te Waru Rewiri, a renowned local Maori artist.
