He was born to a Nigerian mother and a Brazilian father but when it comes to how he likes his tea, Seal will always be very British. As told to Alison Boleyn.

What’s your greatest strength?

Being able to be present with people.

What’s your greatest weakness?

I’m terribly absent-minded.

What scares you?

Fear scares me because it’s so destructive.

What virtue do you most admire in people?

Compassion.

What’s one thing about you that would surprise people?

I could eat three bags of popcorn in one sitting, no problem.

Who is your personal hero?

Muhammad Ali. He sacrificed a lot but never gave in to fear. There were times when he was afraid but he never relinquished his position.

What’s your most treasured possession?

My Leica M camera, because it slows me down.

What’s your idea of absolute happiness?

Happiness is having healthy and happy kids.

What is your greatest achievement?

My kids being proud of me.

If you could have dinner with two famous people, who would you choose?

Rihanna, because I think she’s one of the greatest musical artists of this generation, and Elon Musk [co-founder of Tesla and founder of SpaceX and X.com, now known as PayPal], because he’s shaping the world and our future.

If you could do any other job, what would it be?

I would want to be a scientist in a field that discovers cures for illnesses.

What travel experience is on your bucket list?

I keep meaning to go to Cuba because I love taking photos.

How do you switch off?

For me, it’s mountains – I escape to the mountains.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Popcorn. I go weak with popcorn.

If you could turn back time, what would you change in your life?

I wouldn’t change a thing. Sure, I have regrets but I wouldn’t change anything. It’s all part of it.

What would you say is the most British thing about you?

I cannot drink tea that has not been made properly.

If you were an animal, what would it be?

A pug, because they are adorable!

If you were down to your last $20, what would you spend it on?

That should be obvious by now: microwavable buttered popcorn.

How would you like to be remembered?

As someone who has inspired people to be the best they could ever be.
