Lindy Klim Takes Us into Her Bali
Beauty entrepreneur Lindy Klim takes us off the tourist trail to discover the island paradise she calls home.
Lindy Klim regularly travels to Australia and around the world. But with her three children enrolled in school in Bali, she lives on the Indonesian island for most of the year. Klim, who has an Australian mother and a Balinese father, was raised in Bali then Tasmania. Now living in Canggu, on Bali’s south coast, the creative director of beauty brand Milk & Co. has curated a list of hotspots that any visitor to the island will love.
Best places to stay
“I’ve spent a lot of time at the Alila Seminyak. It’s a really good place for a sunset drink because the Beach Bar is stunning. Recently, I stayed at the new Katamama, which is not very Bali; it felt quite New York. It has a MoVida restaurant and Akademi bar and there’s cocktail-making equipment in your room. It’s very cool.”

Katamama; Jalan Petitenget 51b, Seminyak
Best shopping
“A lot of the clothing in Bali is the same from shop to shop because importing is expensive so it’s all made locally. To find different things, I go to Magali Pascal. Her clothes are beautiful and most of them are on high rotation for me because it’s very much about island living: loose and chic. For homewares, I go to Souq. You’re guaranteed to find something quite spectacular. I’ve bought coloured baskets and orange tumblers there.”

Souq; Jalan Basangkasa 10, Seminyak
Best for breakfast
“I love to take my children to Ku De Ta for Sunday breakfast. It’s a routine thing we do. They have a magician for the kids. If I’m with girlfriends, I go to La Lucciola on the beach – it’s still my favourite. They have great specials, fresh juices and gorgeous smoothies. I’m an egg fiend so I always have the poached eggs.”

Best restaurants
“La Casetta is a super-cheap restaurant. It’s Italian and the homemade pasta is delicious. At Mama San, I enjoy the atmosphere of the upstairs bar more than the dining room. They serve curries and stir-fries and the coconut mojito is amazing.”
La Casetta; Jalan Bumbak 172, Umalas
Mama San; Jalan Raya Kerobokan 135, Banjar Taman
Best place to take the kids
“The Pan Pacific Nirwana Bali Resort has a beautiful view of the ocean and a water slide. I like to take the kids there and have a resort day with them.”
Jalan Raya Tanah Lot, Tabanan
Best spa treatment
“There’s a woman at Therapy who gives me the best massages I’ve ever had – and they’re about $25 an hour.”
Jalan Batu Mejan, Echo Beach, Canggu
The real Bali
“Candidasa, on the south-east coast, is old-school Bali. You won’t find many tourists but a lot of locals go there for holidays. It’s also great for seafood.”
