How Bid Now Upgrades work
Eligibility
After booking your flight, you can enter your travel details on this page above, to see if you are eligible to request a Bid Now Upgrade.
Alternatively, within 7 days of your scheduled flight departure, you may receive an email notification to place a Bid Now Upgrade request, or provided the option in your Qantas App.
Make an offer
Place a bid, choosing the amount you’d be happy to pay for an upgrade. You can make an offer using cash, or a mix of cash and Qantas Points. A minimum offer amount is required in order to make a bid.
If you change your mind about your bid, you can modify or cancel your unconfirmed upgrade offer up to five hours before a domestic flight and up to 10 hours before an international flight.

How do Bid Now Upgrades work and who is eligible?
Bid Now Upgrades are available for selected Qantas-operated domestic and Qantas-operated international flights.
- You can make an upgrade offer to a more premium cabin using cash, or if you are a Qantas Frequent Flyer, a mix of cash and Qantas Points.
- A minimum offer amount is set by Qantas in order for you to make a bid. There is a minimum and a maximum amount of money or points required for each flight segment. Any upgrade offer must be within this range.
- Bid Now Upgrade requests commence processing from 24 hours to 2.5 hours before your scheduled flight departure on domestic flights and from 24 hours to 7 hours on international flights. We'll email you to let you know whether your offer has been accepted or not.
- Up until 5 hours before your scheduled domestic flight departure and 10 hours before your scheduled international flight departure, you can make, change or cancel an unconfirmed Bid Now Upgrade request.
Upgrades offers will be accepted or rejected in Qantas' sole and absolute discretion. You can check here if you are eligible to make an offer. Once confirmed, if you cancel a confirmed Bid Now Upgrade, or fail to board a flight for which a Bid Now Upgrade has been confirmed (no-show), you will forfeit the Bid Now Upgrade. This includes any cash and/or Qantas Points used to redeem the Bid Now Upgrade, and a seat may no longer be available in the class of travel originally purchased.
How do I make an upgrade offer?
There are multiple ways you can bid for an upgrade:
- Bid Now Upgrades are available for selected Qantas-operated domestic and international flights.
- If you’d like to make a Bid Now Upgrade offer you can visit Manage Booking, the Qantas App, or click the link in your email to see if you are eligible. If eligible you can then choose the eligible flight segment you would like to make an upgrade offer for. If you are using the Qantas App, select ‘Request an upgrade’, and select the option that says ‘Bid to Upgrade’. This will be clickable if you are eligible. Follow the steps to request an upgrade. Alternatively, go to the Bid Now Upgrades page and enter your booking details to see if you are eligible. If so, enter your contact and payment details in the fields provided, then review and submit your offer.
- You can make an offer to upgrade using cash, or if you are a Qantas Frequent Flyer, a mix of cash and Qantas Points.
- A minimum offer amount is required in order to make a bid.
- For cash only offers, move the slider within the specified range to indicate the amount of your upgrade offer.
- Adjust the slider to show the amount of money you would like to offer; if you are a Qantas Frequent Flyer member, input the Qantas Points you want to offer and select the update button.
- Bid Now Upgrade requests commence processing from 24 hours before your scheduled flight departure, and we’ll email you to let you know whether your offer has been accepted or not.
- You can make, change or cancel an unconfirmed Bid Now Upgrade request until 5 hours before departure on domestic flights and until 10 hours before departure on international flights.
Note: your nominated payment card will not be charged and (if appropriate) Qantas Points deducted from your account until your upgrade offer is accepted. UATP card is not accepted as a Bid Now Form of Payment.
How many days do I have to make or change my upgrade offer? Can I make an offer less than 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure of the flight?
If you are eligible, Bid Now upgrade offers can be made up until 5 hours before your scheduled flight departure, on domestic flights and 10 hours before your scheduled flight departure on international flights, you can make, change or cancel an unconfirmed Bid Now Upgrade request, by clicking on the link in your upgrade email, via the Bid Now Upgrades page, visit Manage Booking or the Qantas App.
Bid Now Upgrade requests commence processing from 24 hours before your scheduled flight departure, so it’s best to place a Bid Now Upgrade request prior to 24 hours.
If your offer is accepted within 24 hours before your scheduled flight departure, you will be charged the amount offered in cash and (if appropriate) the Qantas Points offered will be deducted from your account.
If you cancel your confirmed upgrade, or fail to board a flight for which you have paid for a Bid Now Upgrade, you will forfeit the amount paid and a seat may no longer be available in your original booked class.
With my upgrade offer, will I get the same inclusions as other customers travelling in the higher class?
If your upgrade offer is accepted, Qantas will endeavour to provide you with all the inclusions of the higher cabin cabin class, however this cannot be guaranteed. Note: that separate Terms and Conditions apply to inclusions.
Are there any additional change fees, ticket taxes and surcharges to pay on top of the upgrade offer?
No. All offers are inclusive of change fees, ticket taxes and surcharges.
If there are other passengers in my booking, can I make an upgrade offer for myself only?
No, you must make an upgrade offer for all passengers in your booking. You cannot split the booking.
If you are a Qantas Frequent Flyer member, you must state the relationship between you and the other passengers in the booking. If the other passengers in the booking are not Eligible Family Members you cannot make an upgrade offer.
If your upgrade offer is accepted, all passengers will be upgraded and the nominated payment card will be charged and (if appropriate) Qantas Points will be deducted from your Qantas Frequent Flyer account.
Do I have to make the same upgrade offer for each flight segment in my itinerary? Can I make an upgrade offer for some flight segments but not all?
If you are eligible for a Bid Now upgrade, you may make an upgrade offer for some or all of the Qantas operated flight segments in your itinerary. If you can bid for more than one flight segment, you can offer a different amount for each flight segment.
If you do not want to make an upgrade offer for a specific flight segment, you can move the offer slider to the far left to show "No Offer" for that flight segment.
How can I check if I am eligible for a Bid Now Upgrade?
If you are eligible for a Bid Now upgrade, you can check if you are eligible for a Bid Now Upgrade via the Bid Now Upgrades page, by visiting Manage Booking, the Qantas App, or by clicking the link in your email.
If I bought a sale fare will I be eligible for Bid Now Upgrades?
No, passengers who have purchased a sale fare will not be eligible for Bid Now Upgrades.
When will I know if my upgrade offer has been accepted and what happens next? Can I check-in before I know if my upgrade offer has been accepted or rejected?
You will receive a confirmation between 24 and 2.5 hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time, advising you whether your upgrade offer has been accepted or not. If your upgrade offer is accepted, your nominated payment card will be charged and, if appropriate, Qantas Points will be deducted from your Qantas Frequent Flyer account. You can check Manage Booking, the Qantas App or your email to see if your upgrade offer is accepted
You must wait until you have received notification from Qantas that your upgrade offer has been accepted or rejected before you check-in. If you check-in before you receive such notification from Qantas, your upgrade offer may no longer be valid.
If my upgrade offer is accepted, can I select my seat in the upgraded class of travel? Which fare conditions will apply to my upgraded booking?
Once you have been notified that your upgrade offer has been accepted, you can select your seat via Manage Booking Seat selection cannot always be guaranteed as seats may need to be changed for operational, safety or security reasons, even after boarding the aircraft.
The fare conditions of your original booking will apply to your upgraded booking.
If my upgrade offer is not accepted, will I be told why and can I make a second upgrade offer?
No. Upgrade offers will be accepted or rejected in Qantas' sole and absolute discretion. If your upgrade offer was not accepted, you cannot make another Bid Now Upgrade offer for the same flight.
If my upgrade offer is accepted, can I check-in at the First, Business or Premium Economy counter at the airport and can I access the Qantas lounges?
Yes, you can check-in at the counter relevant to the class of travel that you have been upgraded to, where applicable. If you are upgraded to Business, you can access the relevant Qantas lounge (if available in your departure airport), for the flight in which you've been upgraded.
If my upgrade offer is accepted, which Qantas Points and Status Credits earn rate will apply?
Qantas Points and Status Credits will be earned at the rate of your original booking.
If my upgrade offer is accepted and I have pre-purchased additional baggage, seat selection or an extra legroom seat, will I get a refund?
No. Pre-purchased baggage, seat selection and extra legroom purchases are not refundable if your upgrade offer is accepted within 24 hours prior to scheduled departure time of the first flight in your booking, unless your fare is refunded due to operational, safety or security reasons even once you have boarded the aircraft (including where you are entitled to a refund under the Australian Consumer Law).
Which forms of payment will be accepted and what currencies can be used for upgrade offers?
- Classic Upgrade Rewards can only be requested if you’re a Qantas Frequent Flyer, using Qantas Points.
- Bid Now Upgrades can be requested using a mix of cash, or if you are a Qantas Frequent Flyer, a mix of cash and Qantas Points.
Accepted forms of payment are Mastercard and Visa (Debit and Credit cards), Amex and JCB.
If the nominated payment card is declined, your upgrade offer cannot be accepted.
Upgrade offers can be made in AUD, NZD, USD, GBP, SGD, AED and JPY.
How is the refund processed when my Bid Now offer has been unsuccessful?
Refunds are only available on request by the Eligible Customer, and must be lodged at qantas.com:
- after the flight in the Upgraded Booking has departed or has been cancelled; or
- no later than twelve months after departure of the flight in the Upgraded Booking; or
- twelve months from the date of the Upgraded Booking.
Any refunds will be processed in the currency in which the Upgrade Offer was made and to the Nominated Payment Card or Qantas Frequent Flyer membership account used to make the Upgrade Offer. Where applicable, any Qantas Points deducted from the Eligible Customer's Qantas Frequent Flyer membership account for the Upgrade Offer will be credited to that Eligible Customer's account.
It can take up to eight weeks for money or Qantas Points refunds to be processed.
How many times can I change my upgrade offer?
What will happen if I make an upgrade offer, it gets accepted and then I need to change my flight?
If your flight changes, this may change your eligibility to request an upgrade.
If you make an upgrade offer via Manage Booking, the Qantas App or email and change your flight after making an upgrade offer, that upgrade offer may no longer be valid.
If you make an upgrade offer and you voluntarily change or cancel your flight after your upgrade offer has been accepted, you will not receive a refund for the upgrade offer. Depending upon the fare conditions of the original booking, you may receive a refund for the original booking only.
Can I withdraw my upgrade offer?
Bid Now Upgrade requests commence processing from 24 hours before your scheduled flight departure, and we'll email you to let you know whether your offer has been accepted or not.
- You can make, change or cancel an unconfirmed Bid Now Upgrade request up to 5 hours prior to departure on domestic flights and 10 hours for international, after which time your offer cannot be withdrawn.
- If your offer is accepted, you will be charged the amount offered in cash and (if appropriate) the Qantas Points offered will be deducted from your account.
- If you cancel your confirmed upgrade, or fail to board a flight for which you have paid for a Bid Now Upgrade, you will forfeit the amount paid and a seat may no longer be available in your original booked class.
How is Bid Now Upgrades different to Classic Upgrade Rewards?
- Classic Upgrade Rewards are open to all Frequent Flyer members with sufficient Qantas Points.
- Classic Upgrade Rewards can only be redeemed using Qantas Points.
- Bid Now Upgrade requests can be made within 7 days from departure, using a combination of Qantas Points and cash, or cash only.
- Bid Now Upgrades will be considered after Classic Upgrade Reward requests are confirmed.
Bid Now Upgrades will be made and offers will be accepted or rejected in Qantas' sole and absolute discretion.

What will happen to my upgrade offer if Qantas changes my flight before or after my offer has been accepted?
If Qantas changes your flight between the time you make an upgrade offer and that offer is being accepted, your upgrade offer may no longer be valid. You may receive a new email to make an upgrade offer for the new flight, if eligible.
If Qantas changes your flight after your upgrade offer is accepted and an upgrade cannot be accommodated on the new flight, you will need to fill out a refund form online.

I made a booking through a Travel Agent, or I booked my own flights independently, can I still place a Bid Now Upgrade and how do I do it?
You can check if you are eligible for a Bid Now Upgrade in the eligibility section, Manage Booking or the Qantas App.
How do I unsubscribe from Bid Now Upgrade emails?

What baggage allowance will I be entitled to if my upgrade offer is accepted?
The baggage allowance for the class of travel that you have been upgraded to will apply. Baggage allowances can be found by clicking here
If my upgrade offer is accepted, can I pre-order my meal? If I previously requested a special meal and my upgrade offer is accepted, will I get my special meal in the upgraded cabin?
If your upgrade offer is accepted, no you can't pre-order your meal, excluding special meals
Qantas will make every effort to provide any special meals requested in your original booking. In some instances, inclusions such as special meals may not be offered.
If I have made an upgrade offer and need to change that flight, can I transfer my upgrade offer to my new flight?
No. Upgrade offers are not transferable.
I cancelled my upgrade offer, but now I want to make a new upgrade offer. Can I do this?
Yes. Upgrade offers can be made or changed up to 24 hours before the scheduled flight departure.
Can I use Bid Now Upgradeswhen booking Flight Rewards on Qantas?
You can use Bid Now Upgrades on Classic Flight Rewards and some Classic Plus Flight Rewards. Classic Plus Flight Rewards booked in E,N.O,Q Class are not eligible to upgrade via Bid Now.
