With four distinct and unique seasons Queenstown has year-round appeal with each season offering a markedly different experience. Summer (December to February) in Queenstown brings long, warm days to enjoy the outdoors with temperatures ranging between 20°C and 30°C. The colours of autumn display red and gold blankets in the hills and countryside. In winter (June to August) temperatures range between -4°C and 8°C, with cool crisp days. It's the best time to experience the stunning snow-capped mountains and a winter paradise for skiing and snowboarding. There's plenty of activities to do in every season.

What is the main airport called?

Queenstown airport (ZQN). It is the gateway to the lower South Island. Located 15 minutes from downtown Queenstown, Queenstown Airport services the region. It's easy to get to the city centre with shuttles, taxi services, buses and rental cars available at the airport.

Arriving in Queenstown

The friendly and helpful staff at Queenstown Airport will greet you when you land, and from there getting into the city is easy. 

Getting into Queenstown from the airport 

With a range of convenient transport options, getting to and from the airport is easy. It’s a good idea to book a rental car to explore the Queenstown region at your own pace. There are a range of rental car operators available at the terminal. If you’re being picked up, there is a pick up zone in the car park in front of the terminal. Other transport options include buses, airport shuttles, taxis and limos are all lined up outside the terminal, ready to take you to your destination. Taxis and airport shuttles offer door-to-door service and the public bus comes through every 15 minutes.

Getting around Queenstown

Once you arrive in Queenstown, getting around is easy, whether you hire your own car, use the public bus network which links Queenstown’s main suburbs or explore the region by foot or bike on the Queenstown Trail. Or visit the lake and hop on the Queenstown ferry network from Frankton Arm to Queenstown. There is also a free shuttle service from The Station in Queenstown to Arrowtown, which runs Thursday to Sunday. There are many tour operators from the town centre and hotels making it easy to get out and about and experience what the region has to offer. If you prefer to self-drive, Queenstown has many rental cars and campervans to hire.

Darwin Airport. Located 13km from the city centre on Henry Wrigley Drive, Marrara, Darwin International Airport (DRW) is the busiest and largest airport in the Northern Territory. Both domestic and international services operate from the same airport.
