When to visit

Salt Lake has a semi-arid climate with dry hot summers and cold, snowy winters. The best time to visit Salt Lake is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). Spring has warm temperatures, plenty of sunshine in the valley while snow is still common in the mountains. Skiing usually continues at the resorts until mid-April and temperatures range from 7°C to 17°C. Autumn is a lovely time to visit nearby canyons filled with vibrant colours as the trees prepare for winter, while temperatures (10°C to 23°C) remain warm enough for comfortable outdoor recreation. If it's skiing, you're after, the best time visit is in winter with plenty of snow and near freezing temperatures.

Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). The airport located about 6.4 km west of Downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States.

The staff at Salt Lake City Airport will greet you when you land and assis with your needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are various transport options available to get you on your way.

Getting into Salt Lake City from the Airport

Getting into Salt Lake City from the airport is easy with various transport options available. Choose from public transport, taxis, app-based ride services, shuttles, limos and an array of car rental companies. By light rail, take the TRAX green line from the ground level outside the terminal on the east side with regular services. It's an affordable and convenient way to get to downtown taking around 20 minutes. Bus routes 453 and 454 can transfer you form the airport to the city centre. Bus stops are located on the curb outside of the terminal. Another option is a shared-ride van like SuperShuttle or Express Shuttle. Taxis are available and it takes around 15 minutes to town and its best to agree on a rate before the taxi departs the curb. Alternatively, you may wish to arrange a ride to your final destination via Uber or Lyft. If you’re staying in Salt Lake City, check to see if your hotel offers a complimentary shuttle from the airport.

Getting around Salt Lake City

Salt Lake is easy to navigate with a wide variety of transport options. The public transport system uses trains, buses and a light rail to get around the city and all the way up to the ski resorts. Commuter trains, called FrontRunner, provide transport from Ogden to Prov, with regular services. Light-rail lines, called TRAX, provide access to downtown from across the valley on three color-coded lines, making it a convenient way to travel. Buses connect many of the light rail and train stations, that can take you to anywhere in the Greater Salt Lake Area. Taxis, limos and ride share apps operate throughout the city, if you wish to book and Uber or Lyft, they can be scheduled through the app. Rental cars are available in town, or you can rent a car by the hour with car sharing services. Salt Lake is a bike-friendly city and you can rent a bike through Greenbike, the city's bike share program. Lime scooters are a fun and cheap way to get around, skip the traffic and can be booked through the Lime app. Alternatively you may wish to join a guided tour to take in the city sights.
