Penang has a warm and humid climate year-round and there is often a daily shower. The temperature ranges around 30°C throughout the year. The best time to visit is during the dry season January and February, or July and August with less humidity. The wet season is between April to May and September to November. The peak travel season is from November to February with sunny days to enjoy the beaches, outdoors and festivals.

Penang International Airport (PEN). It's one of the busiest airports in Malaysia. The airport is located near Bayan Lepas at the southeastern tip of Penang Island, 16 km south of the city centre.  

Arriving in Penang

The helpful staff at Penang Airport will greet you when you land and assist with your travel needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are various transport options available to get you on your way.         

Getting into Penang from Penang Airport     

Getting into Penang is easy, with a range of transport options to suit your needs. Choose from taxis, bus, hotel shuttle, ride-share or car hire. Taxi is a convenient option to get to your destination and are located outside the arrivals area. The trip to George Town takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. It's best to buy a prepaid taxi voucher inside the building to avoid being overcharged. Alternatively, you could request a ride through Grab, a ride share service. If you would like a private transfer, you can book a transfer to any destination in Penang. There is a bus service that is frequent and covers most destinations from the airport. The trip takes around an hour to get into the city. It's possible to rent a car, though its best to take a taxi or rent a car with a driver, or you may wish to organise a hotel shuttle.  

Getting around Penang

Getting around the island of Penang is easy, with a range of transport options available. Choose from taxis, bus, motorbike, rickshaw, ride-share or car hire. Taxi is a handy option to get to you to where you want to go and be sure to get the meter turned on. Alternatively, you can book a ride through Grab, a ride-share service. One of the best ways to get around George Town is by bus. They go to almost every point of interest the island has to offer like the Botanic Gardens and Panang Hill. There is a free shuttle bus that goes around George Town and is a good way to see all the interesting sights. If travelling on the RapidPG bus network it’s a good idea to buy a pass for unlimited travel for a week. If you're adventurous, you can hire a motorbike for a cheap way to get around, or it’s fun to take a ride in a rickshaw, found mainly in the centre of George Town. Penang island is not that big, though renting a car is a great way to see the island.
