Tonga is a tropical island with two distinct seasons, wet and dry. The wet season runs from December to April, with an average temperature around 29°C with some humidity and possible cyclones. The dry season runs from May to November and is the best time to visit with less rain and tropical thunderstorms. July and August are the peak travel times, as it’s the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors, water activities, whale watching and beaches.

Fuaʻamotu International Airport (TBU). It is an international airport in Tonga. It is on the south side of the main island, Tongatapu, 20 km from the capital of Tonga, Nukuʻalofa.

Getting into Tonga from Tonga Airport

With a range of transport options available at Tonga Airport, it's easy to get into Nuku'alofa town. Taxis are a convenient option and meet incoming domestic and international flights for the 15 km trip. Many hotels and guesthouses also offer airport transfers for guests. These need to be arranged prior to your arrival. Alternatively, you may wish to rent a car to explore the island at your own pace.

Getting around Tonga is easy with a range of public transport options, along with bikes, taxis, car hire, scooters, walking or tours. Hiring a car is a great way to explore the many natural wonders and historic sites at your own pace. Scooters, mopeds and bike hire are all available and offer a great way to sightsee. It’s an economic and fun way to get around. By public transport, local buses are a cheap way to get around Tonga or you can join a bus tour. Taxis are a convenient option to take you where you want to go, or if you are heading out to the islands, there are ferries and boats available from the wharf.
