When to visit

The best time to visit New York City is from April to June and September to early November when the weather is warm and pleasant, but the crowds are not overwhelming with temperatures around mid 20°C. It’s perfect for sightseeing from Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge and Ellis Park. Early fall offers crisp breezes, bright sun and comfortable temperatures while late autumn and winter are good to catch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and holiday decorations. Winter is the coldest time of the year with snow and average temperatures between -3°C to 4°C.

John F. Kennedy International Airport also known as just JFK, is the main airport serving New York City. It's located 25 km from the city centre. The airport is the busiest international air passenger gateway into North America and the 20th-busiest airport in the world. The airport has many retail stores, restaurants and bars, beauty and spa salons, airline lounges, charging stations and wi-fi.

The staff at New York Airport will greet you when you land and assist with your needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are various transport options available to get you on your way.

Getting into New York City from JFK Airport

Once you arrive at New York’s JFK International Airport, there are plenty of transport options to get you into Manhattan. The AirTrain is cheap and easy, although you have to transfer to the subway. JFK Airport is well connected to the NYC Public Transportation Network. For most connections to that network, you will need to take either the Jamaica or Howard Beach AirTrain to those stations. There are bus services between JFK Airport, Brooklyn, Queens and beyond with subway connections. Taxis, car rentals, ride share options and van hire are all available at the terminal. 

Getting around New York City

Finding your way around Manhattan is easier than in almost any other city because of the careful plan that was adopted for laying out the city’s avenues and streets. Getting around New York is part of the experience. The subway is cheap, efficient and simple to navigate while New York’s iconic yellow cabs are easy to hail. You could also catch an Uber or join a hop-on hop-off tour. Walking is a great way to see the sights and the best way to see Central Park is by bicycle. You can rent a bike for two hours and go solo or book an expedition through Central Park Bike Tours. There are ride share services, buses which you need a MetroCard for, train and the NYC Ferry.
