Discover Jervis Bay
Renowned internationally for its stunning natural beauty, it’s no secret why the south coast of NSW – and Jervis Bay in particular – is one of Australia’s premier tourist destinations.
With some of the world’s safest and most breathtaking beaches, including Hyams Beach which, according to the Guiness Book of World Records, has the whitest sand in the world, Jervis Bay is truly a national treasure. Although a trip is best undertaken in summer to fully enjoy the water, winter is a lovely time to enjoy a slower pace without the crowds.
The southern end of the bay is occupied almost entirely by Booderee National Park, a name which means ‘bay of plenty/plenty of fish’ in the local Dhurga language. The park is owned by the Wreck Bay Aboriginal community, and stretches along the southern coastline to Sussex Inlet.
With some of the highest sea cliffs in NSW, perfect ocean surf breaks, renowned dive sites, endless sandy beaches, a massive basin and wildlife that includes kangaroos, wallabies, penguins, rosellas, goannas, eagles, stingrays, dolphins and parrots, Jervis Bay is truly in a league of its own.
Ready to book your Jervis Bay adventure, but wondering where to stay? Qantas Hotels allows you to choose from over 500,000 hotel and accommodation options worldwide, with a wide selection in Jervis Bay alone.
You’ll also earn 3 Qantas Points per $1 spent with Qantas Hotels. So whether it’s your first time to Jervis Bay or your fiftieth, let’s take a look at what you need to know about Jervis Bay and its hotels to make the most of your stay.
Places to see
What are Jervis Bay's must-see attractions?
Hyams Beach: A trip to Hyams Beach is definitely one of Jervis Bay's must-see attractions. Although the sand is unquestionably whiter than white, there are many beaches within the area that are equally stunning, including Greenpatch, Collingwood and Callala beaches.
Booderee National Park: Heading into Booderee National Park is a trip not to be missed, as it is truly one of the east coast's most breathtaking parks. A trip to the ruined lighthouse just east of Greenpatch will give the visitor a chance to enjoy sensational views along the coastline northwards to Point Perpendicular and Bowen Island, while on the right day Cave Beach has rolling waves that seemingly stretch on forever.
Greenpatch: Background to countless holiday snaps and childhood memories, Greenpatch is a beach that needs no introduction. With a large campground just set back from the beach, parklands, barbecue areas and natural bushland meet the sands for one of Jervis Bay’s most photogenic locales. With a small creek – stained brown with tannins from the local tea trees and eucalyptus – that winds its way through the campground to the sea, it’s not uncommon to see kangaroos hop through the creek to the water’s edge.
Huskisson: Even if you don't stay there, Huskisson is the gateway to the southern half of the bay and a perfect place to grab a coffee, gourmet meal or simply browse the shops. It's also from where many of the dolphin, kayak and diving tours embark. Honeymoon Bay on the eastern shore of the bay is particularly photogenic and an ideal place to set up camp during the summer holidays, though be aware that many of the region's camping spots are bookable by ballot only.

What are the best areas to stay in Jervis Bay?
As the only accommodation within the national park is camping, most visitors looking for a more permanent structure head to Huskisson, Vincentia or Hyams Beach. Sleeping coastal towns in winter, summer brings a vibrant hum and crowds looking to enjoy this spectacular region firsthand.
Sitting on the western edge of the bay, Huskisson is for many their first experience of Jervis Bay. A small coastal town that understandably increases in population dramatically during the warmer months, the picture-perfect aspect from the boat ramp and wharf northwards across Currambene Creek and Callala Beach is one of the most iconic in Australia.
Larger than Huskisson and divided into two distinct shopping areas of Vincentia Village and Vincentia Marketplace, Vincentia has an aquatic centre, as well as major supermarket chains, cafes and boutique shops. Watch the Sunday sailing races at Plantation Point from the Vincentia Sailing Club, or head out to Booderee National Park, just 8 minutes and 7 km away.
Known internationally for its beauty and the world's whitest sand, Hyams Beach sits just outside the entrance to Booderee National Park. A tiny community that looks eastward across the bay to the impressive Point Perpendicular and Bowen Island, Hyams Beach is now a global hotspot. While extraordinarily beautiful, be warned that the crowds are intense in the summer, and it may be impossible to park in the town itself.
The southern side of the bay is separated from the northern side by Currambene Creek at Huskisson. With no bridge, access is via Forest Road just south of the larger town of Nowra. The northern side includes Callala Beach, Callala Bay and Currarong, which sits on the seaward side on the Beecroft Peninsula. Worth a completely separate trip on its own, sites worth visiting include Honeymoon Bay and the Point Perpendicular Lighthouse – just a 40-minute, 41 km drive from Nowra.
What are Jervis Bay's best hotels for couples?
In an area renowned for quality accommodation, the jewel in Jervis Bay’s crown is Paperbark Camp – one of Jervis Bay's best hotels for the couple seeking a romantic getaway with a difference. A set of African-safari style tents in an idyllic bush setting complete with meals at the gourmet Gunyah restaurant, luxury glamping is an understatement. An eco-retreat with an emphasis on the natural environment, Paperbark Camp is the perfect base from which to explore the area.
What are Jervis Bay's best hotels for families?
Looking for Jervis Bay's best family hotel or getaway location? It's hard to go past Huskisson Holiday Motel Cabins. Located close to the shores of the bay with pristine waters, golden sand and park-like grounds, features range from fully self-contained cabins, BBQ amenities and picnic area.
What are Jervis Bay's best hotels for location and views?
Want to be in the centre of the action? Set in the heart of Huskisson, the Huskisson Beach Motel overlooks White Sands Park and captures stunning views across the bay. Neat and simple, beaches, cafes, pubs, shops and parks are literally just metres away.
