On the coast approximately 2.5 hours or 220 km south of Perth and sitting just 40 km from Cape Naturaliste at the southernmost tip of Geographe Bay, Busselton is a tourist town perhaps best known as the gateway to the Margaret River region.

A welcoming oceanfront town with a vibrant cafe scene, art galleries, museums and cultural events aplenty, it's just a short drive to Yallingup's surfing breaks and the area's excellent wineries.

You’ll also earn 3 Qantas Points per $1 spent with Qantas Hotels. So whether it’s your first time to Busselton or your fiftieth, let’s take a look at what you need to know about Busselton and its hotels to make the most of your stay.

Places to see

What are the must-see attractions in Busselton?

One of the South-West's most iconic and recognisable landmarks, the Busselton Jetty is the centrepiece of this bustling coastal town. Extended over decades to its current length, building of the jetty began in 1864 and was used primarily to export agricultural crops, timber and livestock. The jetty is now the longest timber jetty in the Southern Hemisphere, at an incredible 1.84 km long.

No longer a working jetty, the jetty is now a tourist attraction with a small train that enables you to ride the length in style. Once at the ocean end, be sure to stop for a look at the Underwater Observatory to view incredible marine life. Want more? Grab a coffee, hit the beach, walk through the world's only Tuart forest, browse boutique shops in town or head out to visit the wider Margaret River region.

Once outside Busselton, be sure to head out to Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park to see the lighthouse and revel in the scenery. As the starting point of the Cape to Cape track, enjoy the views of the rugged coastline or pop by Meelup Beach – one of the only places in Western Australia where you can watch the moon rise over the ocean.

Grab a ride on a charter boat to watch the whales frolic in the bay, dive the wreck of the HMAS Swan or take a cycle on one of the many cycle paths. Fancy a surf? Then head to Yallingup beach nearby for some truly exceptional waves.

Attracting some of the world’s top chefs who revel in the fresh and abundant local produce, the Busselton region has excellent restaurants – many attached to wineries. Vasse Felix winery and Leeuwin Estate winery are good places to start with the latter hosting outdoor concerts under the stars in summer, though you could honestly spend years tasting all this exceptional region has to offer.

With over 5,000 hectares of vines planted on 215 vineyards, the Margaret River region produces 20% of Australia’s premium wine market with an emphasis on Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon and Chardonnay.

On a winter trip? Head to the Margaret River Pro, one of the main stops on the World Surf League’s World Championship Tour. Margaret River is known internationally for its massive waves, so if you’re in town at the end of May, be sure to stop to watch the Pro as some of the world’s best surfers try and tame the might of the Indian Ocean.
