Qantas crew and pilots on tarmac

Our uniforms past and present

Learn about the history of our uniforms and the renowned fashion designer who created our most recent stylish collection.

Our uniform is a part of our brand – uniting our ground and flying crew as "one team". We have a proud tradition of working with some of the world's leading designers to develop uniforms for our Qantas team. Since it first hit the runway in 1938, the Qantas uniform has been a symbol of service excellence and the irrepressible Australian spirit of travel.

A designer history

Some famous names have designed Qantas uniforms over our more-than 100-year history, including Peter Morrissey, Yves Saint Laurent, George Gross and Harry Who, and Emilio Pucci.

Soon we’ll be unveiling a brand-new Qantas uniform, to be created by an Australian designer and with the input of the people who will be putting them to the test: our Qantas team.

In 2013, we unveiled a new uniform from acclaimed Australian designer Martin Grant, our tenth since 1938.

Inspired by the Qantas logo, the range is fresh and contemporary, but relaxed and comfortable to allow for the variety of tasks our customer-facing team undertake.

The collection features a French navy, Qantas red, ruby red and fuchsia palette, with garments designed to be flattering on all body shapes. Martin's signature piece is the bold stripe dress, ensuring our employees will be visible whether they're onboard or in the terminal.

The collection also saw the addition of a hat for our female cabin crew and the perfect trench in French navy – a chic addition to the range that, provides extra warmth in cooler climates.

In 2016 we also unveiled new uniforms for our pilots, to time with the delivery of our first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. Also created by Martin Grant, our pilot uniform is a modern, single-breasted, navy suit in a streamlined cut, with nostalgic design features linking back to the first Qantas uniforms from the 1930s. The fabric is light, the shirt is more fitted that it has been in the past, and the gold stripes used to define rank are fine to give a more elegant look. The back of the jacket also features a red vent to add a splash of colour.

The suit is made from pure Australian merino wool and cotton in the shirting designed for high levels of comfort and different climates.
