Kym Ellery's Guide to Paris
After establishing her eponymous label in 2007, Kym Ellery’s fresh take on elegant wares fast became a favourite among Australia’s fashion set. It wasn’t long, though, until the international industry took notice of the Perth-born designer. In 2013, Ellery became the third Australian designer to show at the prestigious Prêt-à-Porter shows in Paris, a roster including Chanel and Louis Vuitton. Yes, business has whisked the perennial style-setter to the City of Light, but ahead of her Paris show this season, Ellery shares where she unwinds in the world’s fashion capital.

Best places to shop
Astier de Villatte, LeEclaireur, Librairie Galignani
“Head to Astier de Villatte,” says Ellery. “This is a quaint store that sells the most beautiful ceramics and glassware. They also have a large range of scented candles that are incredible. They’re named after various s cities around the globe and flavoured to match. Then, make sure you visit LeEclaireur. This is one of my favourite boutiques in Paris. They sell some of the world’s best fashion brands – from Balmain and Hermès to Issey Miyake and Lanvin – as well as special pieces of art and furniture. I always find something special when I shop there. Don’t miss Librarie Galignani. This is the bookstore of all bookstores! With both French and English editions of literature, you are sure to find something to further develop your mind and warm your heart.”

Best places to refuel
For brunch
“Cafe Charlot in Le Marais. I always have the escalope Milanese and it never disappoints.”
For dinner
"Relais de l’Entrecôte is an old favourite. You can’t book, just line up on the sidewalk and enjoy the fresh air. Also, make sure that you never take a vegetarian there, when you go you will understand why…”
For coffee
“Nowhere beats Sydney and Melbourne for good coffee but you will get close at Café Kitsuné in Paris. There is one located in the gardens of Palais-Royal in the 1st arrondissement and one in the 11th arrondissement.”
For juice
“Bob’s Kitchen in Le Marais. After all the French red wine your body will thank you when you try their green juice!”

Best bar
La Belle Epoque
“There are many, many bars in Paris. My personal favourite is La Belle Epoque. It’s also a great place for dinner; I once saw my idol there, Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons and Dover Street Market. It was one of the best nights of my life…”
Between shows
“I love to visit the Musée Picasso. Newly opened after many years of renovations, the building is simply amazing and the collection of works – even better. It’s not too big so you can walk through quickly before sitting for lunch with friends in Le Marais.”
