The Best Places to Shop in Paris
It’s hard to know where to start in the world’s fashion capital. Here’s a primer to some of the best shopping in Paris, whether you’re looking for pre-loved gems or to splurge on a piece of Parisian couture.
For jewellery: Place Vendôme
In addition to being crowned the world’s style capital, Paris is also its fine jewellery epicentre, with the most lauded address owing to the Place Vendôme.
For fresh produce: Marché des Enfants Rouges
This is where Parisians go to get their fresh produce, which explains the myriad bicycles with baskets sporting baguettes chained out the front of this Marais institution.
For designer wear: Le Bon Marché
Le Bon Marché is quite simply Paris’ most chic department store for everything from designer fashion to costume jewellery, lingerie and cosmetics.
For vintage finds: Kiliwatch Paris
This sophisticated vintage boutique is where fashion-conscious Parisian girls (and yes, okay, that’s tautological) go to unearth design gems. Think a treasure trove of hats, shoes, bags, costume jewellery and, of course, clothes sourced from every fashion decade.
For luxury designs: Montaigne Market
With a brand list that catapults from Repossi to Tabitha Simmons and Isabel Marant to Valentino, Montaigne Market is one of the only designer multi-brand stores in the fashionable 8th arrondissement.
For a piece of couture: Maison Michel
This Chanel-owned milliner has become cult issue for fashion editors from Berlin to New York – but not so much for its straw summer hats destined for holiday sojourns, it’s the brand’s signature felt Virginie, Andre and Henrietta styles that have made it the go-to fashion hatter for all seasons.
For bric-à-brac: Marché Aux Puces de Vanves
Marché Aux Puces de Vanves is a weekend flea market ideal if you enjoy trawling through boxes of chipped (or potentially pristine) china.
For signature red soles: Christian Louboutin
These days you can buy a pair of Louboutins in almost any city of the world but there is something extra special about doing so from the Jean-Jacques Rousseau boutique where it all began.
