The suburb of Coburg in Melbourne’s north is set for a cool and contemporary new resident with the inclusion of a futuristic Holiday Inn, slated for a 2020 opening.

Located on Sydney Road in the bustling heart of Coburg, the sharp, mirrored façade will provide a striking contrast to the area’s busy cluster of heritage-style shopfronts.

The property will feature 150 guest rooms, an on-site gym, bar, extensive meeting facilities as well as all-day dining options and the modern design is the brainchild of local architectural firm Hachem.

The central location places it within easy distance of Batman station, with tram and bus lines running directly into the city and nearby Brunswick. Melbourne’s main domestic hub, Tullamarine Airport, is just 20 minutes drive away.

Until recently, the calling card of Coburg was the shadow of 19th-century Pentridge Prison (now destined to become the area’s hottest new dining precinct) but a flurry of hip cafes, diverse eateries and popular craft beer haunts have spilled over from neighbouring Brunswick, bringing the suburb some serious street cred.

Come 2020, there will also be a place for urban explorers to rest their heads.
