Travelling responsibly
Carbon offsetting allows us to help compensate for these emissions by purchasing credits that remove, reduce or avoid emissions in the atmosphere from projects outside the aviation sector.
With our Fly Carbon Neutral program, we've done the hard work for you, by calculating the emissions for each route we fly. When making your booking on this website or the Qantas App, you can easily 'tick-the-box' to offset your share.
Your contributions are used to purchase carbon credits from accredited projects that meet our internal requirements for integrity and quality, both in Australian and worldwide, particularly those that support positive and social outcomes for Indigenous and regional communities.
All carbon offset projects sourced by the Group are subject to several layers of scrutiny and strict standards from global accredited registries for projects based outside of Australia, and the Australian Government's Clean Energy Regulator and the principles set out in the Australian Government's Climate Active Carbon program for Australian projects. Qantas doesn't profit from Fly Carbon Neutral – every dollar is directly funding carbon offsetting projects.
Three more reasons to offset your flights
Plus for residents of Australia, choosing to Fly Carbon Neutral will count towards achieving Green Tier status.
Where does your money go?
Your contributions are used to fund a range of projects including savanna burning projects run by Arnhem Land Fire Abatement, the April Salumei Rainforest Conservation project based in Papua New Guinea, and World Vision's Clean Cookstoves project based in Ethiopia.
Fighting fire with fire
Northern Australia is prone to extreme and dangerous wildfires. Every year Indigenous rangers use traditional fire management practices to conduct early season dry burns, preventing larger uncontrolled wildfires. Our investment in these projects help to not only significantly reduce emissions but supports Indigenous economic development through our commitment in our Reconciliation Action Plan.

Rainforest conservation
Large hectares of tropical rainforest in Papua New Guinea contains is under threat of deforestation and degradation. Our investment in this project helps to protect rainforest that would otherwise be cleared - securing vital wildlife habitat, supporting local communities, and preventing the release of millions of tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions each year.

Energy-efficient cooking stoves
Increasing energy needs in developing countries are contributing to deforestation, reducing a forest's ability to absorb carbon from the atmosphere. Our investment funds the distribution of energy-efficient cook stoves to farming families in rural Ethiopia that currently use open fires to cook. The cook stoves reduce air pollution, emit less black soot and methane, and reduce deforestation.
