Cancel for any reason
Need to cancel your booking? Qantas Frequent Flyers can cancel for free within 24 hours of booking with us.
How it works
We know that plans change. So, if you're a Qantas Frequent Flyer and you make an eligible flight booking directly with us, you can cancel your flights free of charge within 24 hours. This means:
- no cancellation fees
- we'll cancel your flights and eligible additional products
- we'll refund the value paid for your flights and eligible additional products.
Made a mistake on your booking? You may be able to change instead of cancelling
If you made a mistake while booking with us, you can change your booking instead of cancelling it. Call us by midnight on the same day to correct the details and pay no service or change fees. Find out more at Same day no mistake
Just booked, but you're not a Qantas Frequent Flyer?
You can still join now Just be sure to add your Qantas Frequent Flyer number to your booking before you cancel and ensure this is done within 24 hours of making your booking. Conditions apply.
Check your eligibility
To be eligible for fee-free cancellation, you must meet all of the following criteria:
- you're a Qantas Frequent Flyer with your Frequent Flyer number added to the booking
- you booked directly with us at qantas.com, the Qantas App or through our Contact Centre
- you made your booking less than 24 hours ago
- the first flight booked departs in 30 days or more
- the first flight originates from an Australian city, and
- the booking has been paid in full and the ticket has been issued.
You won't be eligible if any of the following apply:
- the booking is for an unaccompanied minor
- the booking has been previously changed or reissued
- you used a Flight Credit or a Buy Now, Pay Later option to pay for the booking, or
- one or more passengers were split from the original booking.
Cancelling additional products
We can also refund some additional (ancillary) products that were part of your booking, including:
- pre-paid seat requests
- prepaid additional baggage allowances, and
- Fly Carbon Neutral offsets.
We're unable to cancel or refund the following:
- Hotel reservations - contact Qantas Hotels directly to change or cancel
- Qantas Travel insurance - update your insurance policy at Qantas Insurance
- Car reservations - if your car reservation is not required and you used Qantas Points towards the value of the rental, you'll need to contact your local Qantas office after cancelling your booking to request a refund, or
- Booking fees for bookings made through a Qantas contact centre or airport location.
How to cancel
You can cancel your eligible booking using the following steps:
Retrieve your booking
Visit Manage booking or log into My Account (select ‘Manage’ from the bookings list).
View and cancel
Above the Flights panel, select the cancel button and review the information in the Cancel Flights pop up window.
Confirm your eligibility
You'll know you're eligible for free cancellation when we outline the 'Cancel for any reason' policy in the pop up window.
We'll process the refund
We'll refund the value of the flights and eligible additional products back to your original form of payment.
If you can't select the cancel button, it may mean your payment is still processing (for example if you used BPAY) or the ticket hasn't been issued. If you meet all of the eligibility criteria, contact us for support.
Don't see 'Cancel for any reason' in the Cancel Flights pop up?
After you select the cancel button, if the information in the pop up doesn't mention 'Cancel for any reason', the booking is either:
- ineligible for fee-free cancellation under this policy, or
- missing your Qantas Frequent Flyer number. Just add it to the booking, then retrieve your booking again to cancel.
You can still proceed to cancel your booking, however a cancellation fee may apply depending on your fare type. Ensure you read the conditions carefully before following the prompts to continue, or you can choose not to cancel online and contact us
