Places to stay

Across the Snowy Mountains you'll find a wide range of accommodation options, ranging from camp grounds to luxurious resorts. Each of the main alpine resorts will offer you a slightly different experience.

Jindabyne is set on Lake Jindabyne and is the service town for the neighbouring alpine resorts. From here you can do day trips to Thredbo, Perisher or Selwyn.

Thredbo offers a true village experience, with a number of restaurants, bars, cafes and events all within an easy walking distance.

Perisher is  the largest ski resort in the Southern Hemisphere, where you have the choice of 4 different skiable areas — Perisher Valley, Smiggin Holes, Guthega and Blue Cow all providing on-snow accommodation options.

For Charlotte Pass you need to take oversnow transport from Perisher Valley. This is Australia's oldest and highest ski resort offering a unique experience also with on-snow accomodation.

Things to do

Home to the highest peak within the country, in the Snowy Mountains you can tackle mountains on pristine snow in the winter or enjoy the hiking trails in the summer.

In winter you have the option of several alpine resorts to base yourself for skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing and toboganning. For the younger children there are several play areas to build a snow man, or slide down the mountain on a tube or a toboggan. Plenty of ski schools run daily, so while the little ones are learning, why not head to the slopes or relax at one of the luxurious day spas.

In summer try mountain bike riding or hiking on the wonderful variety of tracks, or enjoy fishing or a E-Foil Flite-Board ride on Lake Jindabyne — or just sit back and take in the sunset from Rushes Bay.

All year round you'll find lively music festivals to attend, or regional delights to sample including superb mountainside dining, or a tasting at a boutique winery, craft brewery or distillery.

The Snowy Mountains are also home to Australia’s highest mountain – the spectacular Mount Kosciuszko. Immerse yourself in this wonderful region with plenty of activities to suit your interests all year round.
